Celebrate National Egg Month With Our Favorite Breakfast Food!

Eggs are a staple breakfast food in many households around the world. They’re versatile, delicious, and can be prepared in various ways! But did you know that eggs are also packed with essential nutrients that can benefit your health? This month at Classic Kitchen Cafe, in honor of National Egg Month this May, we’re exploring all the nutritional benefits of eggs and why you should consider adding them to your diet!

Protein

One of the main benefits of eggs is their high-quality protein content. Protein is an essential nutrient that plays a vital role in building and repairing tissues in the body. One large egg typically contains around six grams of protein! The protein in eggs also contains all the essential amino acids needed by the body, making it a complete protein.

Vitamins

Eggs are a great source of several essential vitamins. For example, one large egg contains around six percent of the recommended daily intake of vitamin A. This vitamin is important for maintaining healthy skin, vision, and immune function.

Eggs are also one of the few food sources of vitamin D, providing around six percent of the recommended daily intake. Vitamin D is vital for maintaining strong bones and plays a role in immune function and cell growth. Additionally, eggs contain vitamin E, an antioxidant that helps protect cells from damage, and vitamin B12, which is essential for brain function and the production of red blood cells.

Minerals

Many people eat eggs for their protein and vitamins, but they’re also packed with minerals! One large egg contains approximately six percent of the recommended daily intake of iron. Iron is important for the production of red blood cells and for carrying oxygen to the body’s cells.

Eggs are also a great source of selenium, a mineral that acts as an antioxidant and plays a role in thyroid function. They also contain phosphorus, which is important for healthy bones and teeth, along with energy metabolism.

Choline

Though it may not be well known to many, choline is another important nutrient found in eggs. One large egg contains about 147 milligrams of choline, making eggs one of the best food sources of this nutrient. Choline is essential for brain function and plays a role in liver function and metabolism!
